Darren completes blindfolded Half Marathon attempt in World Record time
Darren Gibbons is leading a 12 in 12 challenge group for St Michael's
You may remember one of our supporters was attempting to run the fastest ever Half Marathon while blindfolded.
Well, he did it…!
Battling fierce heat along the course in Swansea, Darren Gibbons’ efforts were made all the more tricky yesterday when his guide runner was forced to pull out five miles in. After hastily finding a replacement among the other runners, his new guide also had to withdraw, leading to him finishing the run with a third guide.
‘I’d never met these people before,’ said Darren.
‘Both times I just shouted out to the other runners and luckily they helped me out.’
Darren says he has to submit evidence before his run is officially classed by Guinness World Records as record-breaking but is confident he will receive the title, and is already thinking of breaking his time of 1.57.40 next year.
Darren set up a ‘12 in 12’ challenge group which sees members taking part in a dozen runs, usually 10k’s or Half Marathons, for St Michael’s during 2018.
The group is well on the way to smashing its £5,000 target for St Michael’s having already collected more than £4,300.
